With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Warren Harris Morgan, beloved partner, father, brother, uncle, coworker, doctor and friend.
Born in Springfield, MA to Warren A. Morgan and Marjorie (Vail) Morgan, Warren, 75, passed peacefully at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024. He leaves behind his long-time partner Christin Martin, daughters Jennifer Morgan (Cliff Wandtke) and Angie Hendricks (JJ), his sisters Susan Rogers and Nancy Mangari (Giorgio), brother Jeff Morgan, his grandchildren Daniel, Chase and Gloria Hendricks, and his nieces and nephews. He also had a loving relationship with Christin’s two sons Macgregor and Ryan Martin (Molly), and their children, Zak, Bhodi and Hayden.
Always thinking of others and eager to lend a hand, Warren will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, impeccable organization skills, and unquenchable appetite for pizza.
Warren loved living in the Pioneer Valley near the Connecticut River, where he enjoyed canoeing and bird watching. He also loved kayaking in Leverett Pond, hiking Mount Toby and spending time in the woods on his Leverett property. On any given day, Warren could also be found chopping wood for his wood stove or tackling home projects for himself or others. No visit to the home of a loved one was complete without some carpentry, landscaping, or accomplishing some odd jobs.
While in medical school at the University of Vermont, Warren was recognized for his compassion and sensitivity in the care of patients. He carried these virtues into his residency at Penn State and then his 30-year medical career as a family medicine doctor at UMass Health Services and Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Warren finished out his career as a valued administrator at Amherst College Health Center before retiring in 2016.
During retirement, Warren enjoyed investigating his Welsh ancestry, working in his garden, tinkering in his wood shop, hiking in the woods, and taking kayaking and biking adventures with friends. He also treasured time with his kids and grandkids.
Warren was a man of honor who dedicated his days to meeting the needs of all who crossed his path. He embodied William Penn’s words, “I expect to pass through this life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”
We know that Warren’s influence in the world will continue to unfurl, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
